Doc**entary about Asperger’s Syndrome

This short doc**entary about Asperger’s Syndrome shown on TV in 2005 is about me, I have mild Asperger’s Syndrome. I was diagnosed in 2002. I knew I was different from the age of about 6 years old, hypotheses included – the reincarnation of King David or Pliny the Elder, a left behind Space Alien and finally mild autism (after seeing a TV doc**entary). Other pupils were loud and ran around randomly, while I preferred a mature intellectual life. I became interested in astronomy/science ~3 years old, so I’m told, it was my interests that made me stand out in school. Later on in primary school, I became fascinated by mineralogy too. I found it difficult not to talk about my hobbies, one time I stopped taking for a week or two after the summer holidays, because I knew if I talked … the bullies would again realise I was different and the bullying would start again. I was bullied badly, sometimes beaten up, for years. Bullying mostly stopped in secondary school as I found a group to hang around with. In 1987, at 14, I went to an astronomy lecture, but due to the excitement of it all I had a panic attack and I had to leave (a panic attack over astronomy?). This began over a decade of anxiety & panic attacks and increased reclusiveness, which I completely overcame in 1998. Perhaps due to my bad experience with Astronomy, I turned to Mineral collecting. One of isolating aspects of Asperger’s is, we tend to talk at people not with people. However, in 1998, I did a 6 week

@BEESTY11 I have it, and yes they (often) *can* lie, but it is usually very obvious and they hate doing it.

I’ve recently found out about Asperger’s Syndrome, and ater reading all the info, and reading about the experiences of people who have it, it dawned on me that I probably have it as well. I’m not sure how to feel about this. I’ll probably neverwork up the courage to get a psychological evaluation. The bullies always made fun of me as being “abnormal”, and getting diagnosed would, in a way, prove their point. I do have friends who support me, but still I relapse into periods of doubt and distrust

I repeat myself a lot and I state obvious facts a lot. I agree with Bigbiff. I have no desire for an intimate relationship with a girl and I have never dated anyone.

My 8 yr old has Aspergers. The hardest part is making people understand that even thought he sometimes gets in trouble because of his inabilaty to process information doesn’t mean he;s a bad kid. People only see the actions not the reasons for it .

girls always laugh at me and call me a loser when i tell them i have aspergers, or that i am autistic. i dont even know what i am. i have had over twenty psychiatric evaluations and have been diagnosed with so many disorders its not even funny. i have taken so many medications prescribed by therapists and school social workers i cant take it. i wish i was normal.

Don’t tell him to go away he will think you’re just being an arsehole. It’s incredibly frustrating for an aspie to add another failed social encounter to their notch, not to mention a hit to self esteem. If he has aspersers then he honestly does not know what he is doing wrong, you need to take the guess work out of social situations.

my son is onto science since he was 4. at the age of 7 he study from human anatomy to astronomy , passing by all subject . at 8 years is ready to go to college as decide by his school study team , but they also say he has a mild aspergers. should i send him to college in the summer or keep him at the 3rd grade where he have a lot of friend? by the way he cares more about studying what he wants than about his friend. but which decision is better for him?

It’s an uncomfortable subject but I also believe that Aspergers and the tendency for a lack of intimate relationships should be mentioned as well. Take myself for example, I am 40 with Aspergers and I have never had a girlfriend or even dated.

I am aware that my monotone voice and facial expressions, my lack of understanding of subtle social cues (flirting) and the inherent need to spend most of the day by myself are contributing factors.
